Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (or ART) is a very effective treatment for resolving the impact of trauma or distress.

It is a solution-focused approach, often with immediate results, helping those who have post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic attacks, anxiety, depression, and phobias.

ART works by separating physiological sensations from a narrative or memory and replacing disturbing images with more helpful images.

If we decide that ART is a good treatment option for you, you might be curious what a typical session looks like.

We identify a specific problem or scene you would like to work on for the session.

I sit in a chair across from you and hold my hand up.  I will show you how to move your eyes by asking you to follow my hand back and forth.

We use these eye movements to help you locate and eliminate uncomfortable physical sensations associated with distressing memories or triggers.

We communicate throughout the session to determine how your physical sensations change.  Patients start noticing increased feelings of calm.

Your eye movements help reprogram the way in which distressing images and memories are stored in our brain, so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions and eliminate negative images.

While you will always have the knowledge of your experiences, ART promises to help you live without the pain of them by actually help you edit and change the images in your mind surrounding the memory. We often say “keep the knowledge, lose the pain.”

Results are often immediate and symptoms can be resolved in 3-6 sessions.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Due to the nature of this therapy, ART is only available in-person.
